Since becoming Pope, Francis has issued Evangelli Gaudium and Laudato Si’ and declared the Year of Mercy, showing his thinking on how the church, its members and its parishes should relate to the world beyond the church.
“An authentic faith – which is never comfortable or completely personal – always involves a deep desire to change the world” (Evangelli Gaudium Para.183). Most Vatican documents, probably because of their length and their language, remain unread, but many more people than ever before appear to have read at least some of these documents.
However, as yet, the thinking in them seems to have had little practical impact on our parishes. By considering these documents, discussing them and doing practical activities around their contents we hope to discover how their insights may be brought into and maybe change our parishes for the better.
